Tips For Nail Techs On Creating Visual & Video Content

In the bustling realm of nail artistry, standing out is both an art and a science. For this month’s business mastery session, we could think of no one better than Chan, founder of Clawgasmic, to give us the lowdown on how to get the most out of our visual content.

Not just a maestro with nails, Chan has carved out a niche in the digital space, uplifting nail techs globally with her engaging podcast and dynamic social media platforms. Her recent video delves deep into how nail techs can optimise their visual and video content. You can watch the full recording below, or read on for the highlights.

The Golden Social Media Rule Is: Be Consistent

In the rapidly evolving world of social media, where trends come and go with dizzying speed, there's one principle that remains timeless for nail techs: consistency. Establishing and maintaining a regular posting rhythm is pivotal in building a loyal following and reinforcing brand identity. When nail techs consistently showcases their work, shares insights, or even simply engages with their audience, it not only amplifies their visibility but also fosters trust and credibility. It’s also easier to remain consistent when you enjoy creating the content you’re sharing. So, experiment with different types of content and find what you enjoy, this is when you will be at your most authentic and relatable and will help you keep at it.

People Relate To Other People Rather Than Brands

While impeccable designs and flawless finishes are essential, it's crucial to remember that people buy from people. Behind every masterful brushstroke and shimmering coat of lacquer is a nail tech with passions, stories, and experiences. By sharing personal content alongside professional showcases, nail techs allow clients and followers a glimpse into the artist behind the art. This human connection builds a deeper rapport, fostering trust and loyalty. It's a simple truth: when clients feel they know the person behind the service, they're not just buying a product; they're investing in a relationship.

Show off your beautiful working space or salon

Chan also suggests sharing videos or photos which showcase your workspace.
“People are going to feel more comfortable booking in if they know what they are walking into. What chair are they going to be sitting in? What does the space look like? What's on the walls? What colour collection have you got? What's the vibe of your salon? Is it super tranquil? And like lavender walls and salt lamps? Is it like tunes pumping in bright colours? Positive affirmations on the wall? Is it modern like exposed pipework, exposed brick walls and funky plants? What does your space look like? The more you showcase this, the more you will attract your ideal client because the people who are looking for that kind of service will naturally come and follow you. And also they will feel more comfortable walking into that space because they kind of know who you are a little bit, they know at least what you look like, and they know where they are coming into.

How to take the best photos of nails and nail art

  • Background Matters: A clean, non-distracting background ensures that your nail art remains the star of the show. Use simple backgrounds or invest in backdrops that complement your designs.
  • Light It Up: Good lighting can make a world of difference. Natural light is best, but if you're shooting indoors, consider investing in ring lights or soft boxes. They illuminate your work evenly, highlighting the intricate details.
  • Tools at the Ready: Ensure your camera is clean for crisp visuals. While smartphone cameras have come a long way, consider investing in a good quality camera for top-notch clarity.
  • Striking Poses: Get creative with hand poses. Experiment to find angles that best showcase your nail art. Remember, the hand is just as important as the nail art; it’s all about presentation!
  • Promise and Deliver: Start your video by hinting at a fabulous design you’re about to showcase. Build anticipation and then reveal the masterpiece at the end. This keeps viewers hooked from start to finish.
